“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.” Romans 8:1-5
We are in Christ Jesus, hidden in the High Tower that He is, if we are trusting in Him for all things. He is with us while we are trying to stand on our own, but we are exposed to the world, the flesh, and the devil because He allows those things to educate us to bring us back to Him. He works all things for good for those who believe, and so He allows it knowing we will eventually learn and trust Him deeper. So, there is no condemnation, only conviction.
That conviction comes from the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity. He is called our Comforter and our Helper. He has many functions and is called by each one. He is the Spirit of God, being One with the Father and the Son, from before creation and into eternity. He is the Spirit of The Lord, showing submission to Jesus and what He has done at Calvary Who is given dominion over all by the Father to rule forever. He is the Spirit of Truth for He is God and cannot lie, therefore always operating in the parameters of Truth, which is Jesus Christ and Him crucified, Who said, “I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” He is the Spirit of the Living God and the Spirit of Promise, being of the Self Same God that promised Abraham’s seed. He is the Spirit of Jesus Christ having the same mind in perfect agreement with Who Jesus is and what Jesus has done. He is the Spirit of Grace, superintending all that The Lord has for us, distributing it as needed, through what Christ has done. And He is the Spirit of Life through Christ Jesus, giving us the victorious abundant life promised to us through Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
There is no part of the flesh that can possibly bring us closer to God, nor could bring us any more grace from God, nor could bring us His blessings or gifts. It is all provided through faith in our Lord Jesus. The Door was opened when the vail was torn at the Cross of Calvary.
It has been rightly said that the main thing that the Holy Spirit does is point to Jesus Christ crucified. This ultimately brings sinners to repentance, transforming them into saints. This transformation does not end at repentance and is day by day a renewal, so long as we remain in Christ. When we step out on our own, as mentioned earlier, the Holy Spirit points us back to the Cross, that we might repent and be cleansed again.
The Spirit points us to Christ to be saved, and He points us to Christ to be cleansed again, but He also points to Christ daily, hour by hour, minute by minute, that we might remain hidden in Him and receive continual communication in our relationship with God. There is never a time that the Spirit does not direct us to Jesus Christ and Him crucified for He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Bring it all to the foot of Jesus Christ, and sacrifice it all where He sacrificed Himself. Follow the Spirit in all things, trusting God to have accomplished everything already. Have the mind of the Spirit and think on those things that are faithful and true. Think on Christ. Faith in Jesus and what He has done at the Cross is the means by which the Spirit blesses us, grows us, and makes us new every day.
