“Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.” Mark 2:9-11
It is Christ in Whom we rest, but to truly rest in Him is to lean back in His power and strength to lead our lives to allow His Holy Spirit to work within us and through us. From the moment we are saved, healed, and set free, He tells us to now deny ourselves, pick up our cross, and follow Him. It was the same for this man with the palsy.
Like him, we were sick with Sin and brought before The Lord. Some prayed for us whilst we did not even know it. Some spoke the Truth to us. Others lived their lives in that Truth in front of us, speaking it, and praying for us. Yes, we were carried to The Lord to be healed. When we were found guiltless through finally accepting Him, He proclaims to us that our sins are indeed forgiven, now go. Get up (arise) and go!
We are to pick up our bed, too, only the bed we brought is not the bed we take up. Since Christ is where we must rest, it stands to reason that our “bed” is in Him, trusting in Who He is and what He has done, namely, Jesus Christ and Him crucified. This, in its shortest form, is “the Cross.” So, we pick up our cross, which is His Cross the Cross, and we lift Him up before others, joining our brothers and sisters, who prayed for us then, now in prayer for others, walking in the Spirit.
Yes, we follow the urging of the Spirit within us to do the will of the Father, and in complying, we lift up the Son. He is our Banner, Jehovah Nissi. And when He is lifted up, He draws men to Himself, just as we were drawn. All of this is for His glory so that mankind may know that Jesus Christ has the power on Earth to forgive sins.
So, if you have accepted Christ as your Savior and The Lord of your life, it is time to go forth in your life, beginning in your own home, lifting up the Name of Jesus, that your household comes to know the Truth of the Cross. And when that be done, your household will bear the fruit of the Spirit of righteousness which is the Love of the Father, and bring it forth unto all nations and all peoples, that those people, too, may be saved.
Christ didn’t save us and leave us on this Earth to sit and wait for His return. He left us here to show others His Power in our lives, through the change only He could make.
Get up, church. Lift up the Cross, that Christ may work through us and draw all who will believe. Walk in the Spirit and be a blessing unto all whom we meet, speaking praises to the God Who saves, Jesus Christ, and Him crucified for our sins.
“Arise, take up thy bed, and walk.”
