The Dragon’s Lair
“Son of man, set thy face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him, and against all Egypt: speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord God ; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself. But I will put hooks in thy jaws, and I will cause the fish of thy rivers to stick unto thy scales, and I will bring thee up out of the midst of thy rivers, and all the fish of thy rivers shall stick unto thy scales. And I will leave thee thrown into the wilderness, thee and all the fish of thy rivers: thou shalt fall upon the open fields; thou shalt not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given thee for meat to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven. And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the Lord, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.” Ezekiel 29:2-6
The Lord indeed delivered Egypt into the hands of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, and the Babylonians showed no mercy to any of them. One was either incorporated into Babylonian culture by force, or destroyed. That is always how things happened once God spoke, unless the hand of God was upon them as protection. For the Egyptians, God’s hand of protection was withheld. In fact, God’s hand of justice was upon all of Egypt. They were destroyed for all which they had done to Israel. But, it’s the poetic language of how God saw Egypt that speaks to us today.
The great dragon, was Pharoah, but for us, the great dragon is also our modern false teachers. These false teachers of the day have proclaimed what they have to say as the Word of God, only it isn’t. It is their own words, and they have covered themselves with a false spirit, which is not the Holy Spirit, given in this verse by the rivers. Now, these false teachers have not actually said that they have made the rivers as their own outright. Not like Pharoah who had said he was a god to be worshipped. No, these false teachers are more subtle. They admit within their own hearts and minds this truth, but outwardly, they wear masks of being the Lord’s anointed. So many of their followers have fallen for their deception. The Word of Faith, the emergent church, the prosperity gospel, and any and all teachings that are not the gospel of peace, that being Christ crucified, are all falsehoods and have led many astray.
In fact, both the systems of Catholism and Mormonism are so entrenched with works that they are easily accepted as substitutes for the simple gospel of grace. The flesh wants to earn the right to be justified and finds it difficult to accept the Cross alone for salvation, and so the wolves of yesterday maintain their hold today through their own disciples and ministers.
“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” II Corinthians 11:13-15
These dragons and their rivers of deceptive anointing will be found out, make no mistake. And when the Lord places those hooks in their mouths to pull them out and expose them, every one of their followers will be exposed with them. There will be no hiding from God. Note, therefore, that the fish are scattered and eaten right along with the dragons when pulled from their rivers. This speaks of each fish’s individual responsibility for clinging to the dragon’s scales (teachings). God holds each of us accountable for the decisions we make, and the things we cling to, right or wrong. He gives us all of the information we need to make the right choice and to recognize false doctrine.
If we truly know the Lord, then we recognize His Voice when He calls. And more than He ever has before, He is calling His children to get out from the dragons’ lairs. The Holy Spirit wants us to get out from the rivers that drown, and come to the River of everlasting waters, that being Himself.
“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” II Corinthians 6:17-18
